Deductible
The amount you pay before coverage kicks in.
Florida home policies typically have a standard deductible (flat dollar) and a hurricane deductible (percentage). You pay the deductible, then the carrier pays the rest up to the policy limit.
In practice
Where you encounter "Deductible" in Florida claims
Policyholders see "Deductible" referenced in policy language, claim correspondence, and carrier scope of loss documents. Knowing the precise definition under Florida practice keeps you from accepting carrier framing. See also FS 626.854 on Public Adjuster licensing and FS 627.70131 on carrier duties.
